The best time to visit Los Cabos is November to April, when the days are dry and warm, the evenings cool and humpback whales are offshore. For the best balance of weather, space and price, aim for early November, February or the weeks just after Easter, and book the holiday and spring break weeks only if you are prepared to plan far ahead.
Right now, in late October, the destination is turning the corner. The heat is easing, the eastern Pacific hurricane season officially ends on 30 November, and the high season begins to gather pace through the month ahead. Here is how the year breaks down, month by month, and how to choose.
The year at a glance
Los Cabos sits where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific, and it has a desert climate. The calendar is defined less by rain than by heat, humidity and the rhythm of the visitor seasons.
- High season, December to April: the mildest, driest weather, the whale season and the fullest resorts.
- Late-spring shoulder, May and June: hotter days, warmer seas, fewer people and softer rates.
- Low season, July to September: heat, humidity and summer storms, with the lowest prices of the year.
- Autumn shoulder, October and November: October is quiet with lingering storm risk; November turns dry and settled.
The official hurricane season runs from 15 May to 30 November. Direct hits on Los Cabos are uncommon, but anyone travelling in late summer or early autumn should choose flexible rates and good travel insurance.
November: the season comes back to life
For many regular visitors, November is the best-kept secret on the calendar. The weather turns dry, days are warm and nights cool into the 60s°F. The month opens with Día de Muertos on 1 and 2 November, when altars and marigolds appear across both towns.
The first week of November 2026 also brings the PGA TOUR to El Cardonal at Diamante for the World Wide Technology Championship, running from 2 to 8 November. Golfers should expect the Pacific side to be busy that week.
The Thursday-evening Art Walk in San José del Cabo resumes for its November to June season, and the first whales are often spotted before the official season opens. Prices are reasonable early in the month and climb towards Thanksgiving, which falls on 26 November this year.
The Cabo 100 take: the ten days after Día de Muertos and before Thanksgiving week are the sweetest window of the autumn. The sea is still warm, the restaurants are fully open and the hardest tables are bookable without a fight.
December to February: whales and winter sun
December opens the high season proper. Days are warm and dry with cooling breezes, and the Christmas to New Year weeks are among the busiest and most expensive of the year. The official whale-watching season begins in mid-December, and the Mexican traditions of the posadas and Noche Buena give the month a festive character well beyond the resorts. For the holiday weeks, book signature dinners and private charters when you book the room, not after you land.
January is the coolest month. Daytime highs usually sit above 21°C (70°F), and nights can feel genuinely crisp. The first week stays busy after New Year, then crowds ease. This is the heart of whale season, when humpbacks are seen most often.
February is a quiet favourite: sunny, settled, past the holidays and ahead of spring break. For whale watching, calm seas and easier dinner bookings, it is hard to beat. Book morning departures, which tend to enjoy calmer water and softer light. Our On the Water rankings cover the operators who run the most thoughtful trips.
March and April: peak sunshine, peak demand
March and April deliver reliably sunny, dry weather, but spring break and Easter bring crowds and top-of-the-market rates. Easter falls early in 2027, on 28 March, so Semana Santa and the busiest spring break weeks land close together. The reward is that April after Easter is unusually open, with whale season continuing into the month.
This is also prime golf weather. The desert courses are at their most comfortable, and the long, clear days suit an early round followed by a long lunch. Our Golf rankings explain which courses are private and which take outside play.
May and June: the warm-water shoulder
By May the whales have gone north and the high-season crowds have thinned. Daytime highs climb to around 31°C (upper 80s°F) with very little rain, and sea temperatures reach around 24°C. June follows the same pattern.
These months suit couples and anyone who wants the resorts at a calmer pace. Pools are quieter, prime spa appointments are easier to secure and rates generally fall from their winter peak. It is the right moment for a long afternoon at one of the destination’s best spas, booked for late afternoon when the heat breaks.
July to September: heat, storms and space
July, August and September are the hottest and most humid months, with temperatures well into the 90s°F (about 34°C) and a real chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Hotel rates and airfares are at their lowest, and some restaurants and bars shorten their hours or close for a break.
Summer has its devotees: surfers chasing south swells, anglers and travellers who value space over perfect weather. If you go, keep plans flexible, watch forecasts in the days before departure and choose a resort with plenty of shade and indoor options. Do your outdoor activities before ten in the morning and after five in the afternoon.
October: quiet, warm and good value
October offers some of the lowest prices and smallest crowds outside summer. Heat lingers in the air, the sea is at its warmest and the tail of the storm season still needs watching. Resorts often use these weeks for maintenance and refreshes ahead of the winter, so ask before booking whether any pools or restaurants will be closed during your stay.
Choosing your month
- For whales: January to March, when sightings are most frequent.
- For the best weather with fewer people: early November, February or April after Easter.
- For value: May, June and October, accepting more heat in the latter.
- For golf: November to April, teeing off early.
- For the festive atmosphere: mid-December to New Year, booked well in advance.
- For the Art Walk: any Thursday evening from November to June.
When to book
Book the room and the hard tables together. The Christmas and New Year weeks, Presidents’ Day weekend, spring break and Easter are the dates when the best suites, villas and dinner reservations go first, so treat them as decisions to make months ahead. For shoulder months, a few weeks is usually enough, though villa owners and private chefs still fill early for long weekends.
