Cocina de Autor is the restaurant that put Los Cabos on the fine-dining map. Set inside Grand Velas Los Cabos on the Tourist Corridor, it holds a Michelin star, and when the Michelin Guide first arrived in Mexico it was the only restaurant in the destination to earn one.

The kitchen is directed by Sidney Schutte, the Dutch chef whose earlier restaurants in the Netherlands earned two Michelin stars, with Jalisco-born Francisco Sixtos running the stoves day to day as executive chef. Their style is described simply as creative: a playful, carefully paced progression built on fresh produce, local meats and seafood from the surrounding waters.

What sets it apart is the sense of occasion. This is a dinner you plan an evening around, not one you slot in before a nightclub, and it rewards guests who come curious and unhurried.

What to expect

The evening opens with a cocktail at the Cocina de Autor bar before guests move to the dining room for a tasting menu of eight to ten courses. There is no à la carte; the kitchen sets the route and the sequence unfolds over several hours. A wine pairing is offered alongside the menu for those 18 and older. Expect technical, modern cooking with a strong sense of place rather than a parade of imported luxury ingredients for their own sake.

Because the room is small and demand is high, a waitlist operates when the book is full, and resort guests and outside diners are subject to different deposit and cancellation terms. Check the current policy when booking.
