Few restaurants define a destination the way Flora’s Field Kitchen defines San José del Cabo. It sits on Flora Farms, a 25-acre organic working farm in the foothills of the Sierra de la Laguna, and the farm is not décor: it is the kitchen’s main supplier. The restaurant actually began in town, then moved onto the land once the fields were providing most of what it cooked.

The aim is wholesome, generous food with a strong sense of place. Vegetables come straight from rows a short walk from the tables, while meats are raised without hormones or antibiotics on the farm’s own 150-acre ranch nearby. The menu changes with the season, though a few classics stay year-round.

The Michelin Guide has awarded Flora’s both a Bib Gourmand, for good food at fair value, and a Green Star for sustainable practice, and local press regularly calls it the region’s most iconic farm-to-table address. It is always busy, which tells its own story.

What to expect

Dining is outdoors on a patio overlooking the fields, with a relaxed, convivial atmosphere. Alongside the main kitchen, Mama’s Pizzeria fires Neapolitan-style pies in a wood oven, and the Farm Bar, a brick, metal and glass space at the edge of the fields, mixes cocktails infused with farm produce, such as a carrot-based Farmarita, as well as pouring house-brewed beer. A cart serves house-made ice creams and sorbets, and a grocery beside the restaurant sells farm produce, ranch meats and bread baked each morning.

Visitors can also book cooking classes, farm tours and herbalist walks, or browse the farm’s shops and spa, so many guests come early and make a half-day of it.
