Ballena
A sea-and-desert restaurant inside the Casa Ballena art complex near Flora Farms, already among San José's top-rated tables.
Ballena, Spanish for “whale”, is one of the most talked-about new tables in San José del Cabo. It opened in late 2025 inside Casa Ballena, an art and cultural complex on the Camino a Cabo Este, in the farm-and-desert country close to Flora Farms. It is run by Grupo Hunan.
What to expect
The kitchen cooks modern Mexican food with international influences, made to share and built on local seafood and produce. Diners single out the lobster spring rolls and lobster tacos, asparagus with fresh tuna, a ceviche served on a jícama tortilla, wood-fired pizzas and grilled sea bass. The churros are the dessert everyone orders, and the bar is known for its martinis. The setting matches the food: art, low light and a dining room designed to feel like a meeting point between the desert and the sea.
Why it matters
Within a year Ballena has reached a 4.9 rating across hundreds of reviews and a place among the top ten restaurants in San José del Cabo. That is a fast start in a town with plenty of strong competition. It also gives the Flora Farms area a polished evening option that works well before or after a visit to the farm.
Our view
Book an evening table, share everything, and save room for the churros. We’ll be watching to see whether it keeps this level through its first full high season.
Dinner runs 5 to 11 p.m. on weekdays, with lunch from noon to 4 p.m. on weekends.
