Chileno Bay Golf Club is Tom Fazio’s championship course on the Tourist Corridor, an 18-hole, par-72 layout of nearly 7,300 yards set just above Playa Chileno. It is a private, members-only club, operated by Chileno Bay Club, and it is one of the most quietly admired rounds in Los Cabos.

The setting is the draw. The course is framed by desert, the Sierra de la Laguna mountains and the Sea of Cortez, and the sea is in view from every hole. Deep arroyos cut through the property, saguaro cacti stand along the fairways and the land falls toward rugged seaside cliffs. In the winter months, players often spot whales offshore between shots.

It belongs on this list for the way Fazio let the terrain lead. Holes such as the par-3 eighth, with sea grasses softening its bunkers, and the par-5 twelfth, with a deep arroyo running the full length of its left side, show a course that rewards thought and precision rather than brute length.

What to expect

Expect a polished, private-club round with few other groups on the course and long views over the water. The routing moves between desert ground and higher holes that open up to the sea, so the scenery keeps changing. Auberge’s Chileno Bay Resort & Residences sits next door, and the resort arranges tee times for its guests through its concierge team, which makes this one of the few ways for visitors to experience the course.

Good to know

  • The club is private; Chileno Bay Resort guests can request play through the resort’s concierge.
  • Reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance; the resort notes that online booking is currently unavailable, so call ahead.
  • Confirm eligibility with the resort before arrival, as access for non-members is arranged case by case.
  • Winter brings the best chance of whale sightings from the course.
