Few courses anywhere make a first impression like the Dunes Course. Laid out by Davis Love III and opened in 2009, it threads through a field of large sand dunes on the Pacific side of Cabo San Lucas, with the open ocean in view from nearly every hole. Love compared his first look at the site to arriving at St Andrews, and the course still carries that sense of a landscape that was simply waiting for golf.

The accolades followed quickly. Golf Digest named it the top course in Mexico in 2016, and Golf Magazine placed it 36th in the world the following year. It remains one of the main reasons Diamante is spoken of as a serious golf address rather than a resort that happens to have fairways.

What earns it a place on this list is the drama of the routing. Holes play toward the Pacific, run alongside it and then turn away, so the sea keeps reappearing from new angles. Sand is everywhere, not as decoration but as the natural ground the course was shaped from, and the result feels big, bold and unmistakably Baja.

What to expect

Expect sweeping views, sandy surrounds and a round framed by the Pacific. Diamante backs the course with a 14-acre practice facility, a clubhouse with restaurants and bars, a retail shop and on-course comfort stations every three holes, so the experience runs as smoothly off the tee as on it. The Dunes shares the property with El Cardonal, Tiger Woods’ first design, and during the 2026 World Wide Technology Championship week it hosts its own pro-am alongside the tournament.
