Quivira may be the most cinematic round in Los Cabos. Jack Nicklaus’ Signature design opened in 2014 on the Pacific coast, and every one of its holes looks out to the ocean. The routing begins on the beach and then climbs, moving through cactus-studded arroyos and sand dunes before reaching cliff-top holes high above the surf.

Recognition arrived quickly. Golf Magazine named it the best new international course of 2014, Golf Inc. called the wider Quivira project its development of the year, and Golf Digest has included it among the World’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses. It measures 7,085 yards from the back tees, with several forward sets that keep it playable for a range of abilities.

What sets Quivira apart is how complete the experience feels. The course is not just scenic in places; the land changes with nearly every hole, and the sense of elevation and exposure to the Pacific is constant.

What to expect

Expect a round that is as much about hospitality as golf. Four comfort stations sit along the way, and green fees cover the food and drink served at them. The clubhouse is a multi-level, thatched-roof building on the beachfront between the first tee and the 18th green, with shaded outdoor seating over the water, the Quivira Steakhouse and 19th Hole Bar, a pro shop with rentals and beach fishing gear, and a private dining room on the top floor.

Good to know

  • Play is reserved for Quivira owners and for guests staying at Pueblo Bonito resorts in Los Cabos.
  • Tee times are requested through an online form on the Quivira website.
  • The club does not allow non-playing riders on the course.
  • Tournaments and group events are planned through the club’s events contact.
  • The course lies on the Pacific side of Cabo San Lucas, so expect stronger surf and ocean breezes than on the Sea of Cortez courses.
