Costa Palmas Golf Club brought championship golf to the East Cape. Designed by Robert Trent Jones II, the 18-hole course is the centerpiece of Costa Palmas, a 1,500-acre resort community on the Sea of Cortez that is also home to the Four Seasons Resort Los Cabos. It is about 45 minutes from Los Cabos International Airport, far from the busier stretch between the two Cabo towns.

The course is laid out as a journey in three parts. It begins among dunes, rises into upland holes with views over the desert and the mountains, then descends to finish beside the Costa Palmas Marina. The design is walkable and links-like, with generous landing areas off the tee that make it enjoyable whatever your handicap.

It earns its place here for its relaxed, uncrowded character. This is golf as part of a slower East Cape stay, with sea, garden and orchard views and a resort that genuinely welcomes families and new players as well as low handicappers.

What to expect

Expect a round that changes mood from dunes to hillside to marina, and a few playful touches: a taco-stand style café called Lucha Libre awaits near the 13th hole. The practice facilities are extensive, with a driving range, a short-game area and a 30,000-square-foot putting course that works as much for a family competition as for serious practice. Lessons, weekly clinics, caddie services and a golf shop round out the offer, and shorter loops of six, seven or 14 holes suit a quick game.
