The Cabo del Sol Course is the desert half of one of Los Cabos’ founding golf developments. Tom Weiskopf, a designer known for his feel for desert terrain, created the original layout, long known as the Desert Course, on the slopes above the Sea of Cortez. It sits beside the Cove Club, Jack Nicklaus’ private oceanfront course, within the Cabo del Sol community on the Tourist Corridor.

The course has recently been reshaped. Six new holes on the mountainside, designed by Fry/Straka Design Group, opened in November 2023 along with a new practice range and provisional clubhouse, and the existing holes were adjusted to blend with them. The result is an 18-hole, par-72 course of 7,049 yards from the tournament tees, with the sea in view from every hole.

It belongs on this list for its scenery and its sense of adventure. Holes drop in and out of canyon-like arroyos, past cactus and boulders, with bold bunkering and real elevation changes, and the new holes on higher ground add some of the best long views across the water.

What to expect

Expect a classic Baja desert round: firm ground, dramatic carries, big changes in elevation and the Sea of Cortez stretching out below. Cabo del Sol also runs a full instruction program with individual lessons, clinics and custom programs, plus a golf shop. Rental clubs are available, and practice facilities are open for warming up before your round.
