Palmilla Golf Club was one of the first courses in Los Cabos, opening in 1993 with a layout by Jack Nicklaus. More than three decades later, the club is undergoing its most complete transformation. Mexico News Daily reported in October 2026 that construction is under way on a full renovation led by Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design, the firm behind the recent mountainside holes at Cabo del Sol.

What is changing

All 18 holes of the Mountain and Arroyo nines are being rebuilt, with new turf, greens, bunkers, tees, irrigation and drainage. The Ocean nine is being reimagined entirely, as a nine-hole par-3 course and an eight-hole short course. The practice facility is also being rebuilt.

According to director of golf Lloyd Walton, as reported by Mexico News Daily, the work is phased. The Mountain and Ocean nines are closed during the first phase while the Arroyo nine stays open. Mountain, Ocean and the practice facility are due by the end of 2027, and the Arroyo nine by the end of 2028.

Who can play

The club serves its members and registered guests of One&Only Palmilla. During the renovation, golf is limited to the open nine, so guests planning a golf-led stay should check what is available on their dates.

Why it matters

Older courses can fall behind as new designs arrive, and Los Cabos has seen a run of headline openings on the Pacific side. A thorough rebuild keeps Palmilla competitive, and the new par-3 and short course reflect how golf is played today: shorter rounds, mixed abilities and families on the course together. Combined with El Once at neighbouring Palmilla Reserve, the Palmilla area will have one of the most varied golf offers in the region by 2028.
