Oleada Golf Links
Ernie Els's first course in Mexico, a 7,336-yard links-style layout running along a mile of Pacific beachfront.
Oleada Golf Links is the centrepiece of Oleada Pacific Living & Golf, the new oceanfront community on the Pacific coast of Cabo San Lucas, between Diamante’s courses and Rancho San Lucas. It is the first course Ernie Els has designed in Mexico. Preview play began in summer 2026, and the formal opening is planned for November 2026, with a golf professional and food and beverage team already appointed.
The design
Els and design partner Greg Letsche set out to work with the land rather than reshape it. The 18 holes measure 7,336 yards and run along about a mile of beachfront, using the site’s natural sand, ridges and dunes to frame holes, create hazards and shape greens. The references are the links of the British Isles: wide landing areas to cope with the wind, and varied angles of approach.
The ocean is close at three holes in particular, the par-3 fourth and the par-5 sixth and sixteenth. The first, ninth, tenth and eighteenth play near the clubhouse and the Pacific Villa residences.
Who can play
Mexico News Daily reported in October 2026 that the course will open with limited public play before becoming private for members, with guest access for visitors staying at the Grand Hyatt Los Cabos and the future Conrad Los Cabos within the community. Confirm the current policy before planning a round.
Why it matters
Los Cabos already has some of the strongest golf in Mexico, but true links golf on the Pacific is rare. Oleada adds a course that plays with the wind and the dunes rather than the desert arroyos that define much of the region. It also gives the Pacific side a third major golf destination alongside Diamante and Quivira.
A new course needs time for turf and reputation to mature. We will track it through its first full season before considering it for the Golf list.
