Querencia has been a one-course club since 2000, when Tom Fazio’s original layout, now called Campo Bajo, became his first design outside the United States. Campo Alto is his return. Construction has been under way for several years, and in October 2026 Mexico News Daily reported that the club had planned a grand opening event for members on 6 November.

The course

Campo Alto takes golf higher into Querencia’s terrain. Speaking to Golf.com, Fazio described a course that dips and rises through hills, arroyos and ridges with views to the coast, and said the ocean is the common thread between the two layouts. The character is meant to differ from Campo Bajo. The new course places more weight on the second shot, with greens that are smaller but less undulating than the original’s.

That distinction matters for members. Two courses by the same architect can feel repetitive. Two that ask different questions of the same player give a private club real depth from one week to the next.

The club

Querencia is one of the most private golf communities in Los Cabos, set in the hills between Palmilla and Costa Azul just outside San José del Cabo. Play is reserved for resident members and their guests, and there is no public tee sheet. Its beach club gives members access to the surf at Playa Acapulquito.

Why it matters

Most of the region’s new golf is arriving on the Pacific side. Campo Alto is the significant addition near San José del Cabo, and it turns Querencia into a two-course private club. For buyers weighing private communities, that changes the comparison with Diamante and the Corridor clubs.

We will look at Campo Alto again once members have played it through a season.
