Cabo Trek has been running ocean tours and expeditions from Cabo San Lucas since 2013, with a focus that sets it apart from the town’s many party boats: science and conservation. Its outings are led by marine biologists, and the company says it was the first ecotourism operator in Mexico to be recognised by the World Cetacean Alliance as a responsible whale-watching operator.

That approach turns a boat trip into an education. Guests learn what they are seeing and why it matters, and the company backs its words with a sea turtle hatchery and release programme and links to shark research in Mexico.

It belongs among the best for the quality of its wildlife encounters and the range of seasons it covers. Its calendar follows the wildlife, with different seasonal encounters spread across the year.

What to expect

Whale watching is the flagship, with day, sunrise and sunset trips in Cabo San Lucas and expeditions to see gray whales in Magdalena Bay. Snorkelling runs year round, with seasonal specials such as swimming with whale sharks, snorkelling among mobula rays and broader wildlife safaris.

Cabo Trek is also a PADI dive centre, offering dives in Cabo San Lucas and along the Corridor, Discover Scuba and certification courses. On request, it organises dive expeditions to Cabo Pulmo, Gordo Banks and Cerralvo Island, along with trips to Espíritu Santo Island and the Magdalena Bay striped marlin run.

Families have extra options, including turtle releases, a kids’ summer camp and a mermaid experience for children.
