Palmilla is where luxury in Los Cabos began. In 1956, Don Abelardo “Rod” Rodríguez, son of a former president of Mexico, opened a 15-room hideaway on a headland above the Sea of Cortez, at a time when the coast had no paved roads. That hotel became today’s One&Only Palmilla, and the community that grew around it remains one of the most established addresses on the Corridor.

The setting is gentler than the dramatic Pacific cliffs to the west: rolling fairways, mature palms, bougainvillea-lined lanes and a white chapel from the resort’s early years. Close to San José del Cabo yet firmly part of the Corridor, it offers a rare mix of history, privacy and convenience.

Golf is central to its identity. Palmilla Golf Club opened in 1992 as the first Jack Nicklaus Signature course in Latin America, and Nicklaus later added a third nine, for 27 holes across the Mountain, Arroyo and Ocean nines.

Life here

Gated neighbourhoods range from golf-side condos and townhomes to hillside villas with long sea views and oceanfront estates. Caleta, the original Palmilla neighbourhood, is prized for its classic architecture. Some residences carry One&Only privileges, putting the resort’s spa, pools, kids’ programme and restaurants by Jean-Georges Vongerichten close at hand. The resort itself has 174 keys on 28 acres and holds a Forbes Five-Star rating. Residents have a members-only beach club, and daily needs are a short drive away at The Shoppes at Palmilla, with its restaurants, organic market and boutiques. The galleries and restaurants of downtown San José are only minutes away.
