El Ganzo Beach Club is the seaside retreat of Hotel El Ganzo, the art- and music-driven boutique hotel in La Playita, on the edge of San José del Cabo by the Puerto Los Cabos marina. The hotel describes Playa El Ganzo as its beach and swim club, set in a sheltered cove a short distance from the hotel, and getting there is part of the fun: guests arrive barefoot from their rooms or by a quick boat ride across the water.
The mood is laid back and creative, in keeping with a hotel that has made its name through resident artists and musicians. Days here are slow, built around the sand, the sea and a long lunch, while the calendar adds DJ sets, live music, pop-up events and outdoor movie nights on the jetty.
It earns its place on this list as the most characterful beach club in San José del Cabo. It feels far removed from the Medano scene: smaller, quieter and more personal, with a kitchen that takes local ingredients seriously.
What to expect
Expect a full-service restaurant and bar with open-air tables near the shore. Chef José Luis Hinostroza’s menu leans on the region: whole fried fish, ceviches, charred vegetables and grilled meats, plus the beach staples you would hope to find. Cabanas, sunbeds and open sand are all available, and leashed pets are welcome for hotel guests and day-pass holders, which makes it one of the more relaxed places to spend a day on this side of the Cape.
