Chiki
Costa Palmas' evening cocktail bar: Mexican-spirit drinks with Asian-leaning plates and live music in a cantina-style room.
Down a palm-lined alley in the Marina Village at Costa Palmas, on the East Cape, Chiki is the Four Seasons’ answer to a night out. Part bar, part lounge and part nightclub, it mixes the soul of an old Mexican cantina with the energy of a night market, and the resort sums up its ambitions as spectacle, community and ceremony. Guests can even arrive by water taxi.
The room alone is worth the trip. It was created by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, with Frida Kahlo’s La Casa Azul as a reference point. Mosaic tilework draws on Huichol symbolism, lacquered walls glow in coral and jade, and the lighting is a warm amber.
The drinks and food keep pace. Cocktails are built on Mexican botanicals such as prickly pear, marigold, copal and mezcal, while the late-night menu turns toward Asia, with dishes including Taiwanese popcorn chicken, braised pork belly, yukhoe tartare and shrimp toast from Chefs Nicolás Rodríguez and Marisa Takenaka.
What to expect
Chiki is a late, lively room that opens only three nights a week. DJs take over on Thursdays and Fridays, and Saturdays bring live music from a resident band. Bites begin shortly after the doors open, so it works as a destination for a second, late dinner as much as for drinks and dancing. On the remote East Cape, where nightlife is scarce, it stands out as a genuinely glamorous evening.
