At Four Seasons Resort Cabo del Sol, the traditional reception desk has been replaced by a bar. La Casona Bar sits in the heart of the resort’s main building, also called La Casona, and arriving guests are welcomed with a drink rather than a form. It is a simple idea that sets the tone for a stay, and it has made the bar the social centre of the property.

The space was designed by Meyer Davis, the award-winning studio led by Will Meyer and Gray Davis, and it has a chic, comfortable feel that suits both a quick aperitif and a long conversation. The building looks out over the ocean, adding a sense of occasion to the daily ritual of an evening drink.

The concept is a meeting of two coastlines. Mexican spirits are paired with Mediterranean flavours and aromas, so agave and gin share the stage with vermouth and herbal liqueurs. The resort’s own example is the La Casona Sour, built on a Mexican-made gin with vermouth and Chartreuse.

What to expect

Expect a refined, unhurried lounge rather than a party bar. It works best as a starting point, a place to gather before dinner, and as a soft landing after a day on the beach or the golf course. For something more structured, the resort’s bookable Agave Gallery offers private tastings of spirits, wine and cocktails with food pairings, arranged in advance. Later in the evening, guests can move up to the resort’s SORA rooftop bar for a livelier scene.
