The Rooftop and Glass Box
A sleek rooftop terrace with fire pits and a direct view of the Arch; the Glass Box bar specialises in tequila and mezcal.
The Cape, a Thompson Hotel, sits on Monuments Beach with the Arch framed across the bay, and its after-dark life plays out on two very different levels. Up top is The Rooftop, often cited as the first rooftop lounge in Cabo San Lucas and still one of its most sought-after. Down on the lobby level is the Glass Box, a far quieter room for slow sipping. Together they show the hotel’s range, from a sunset crowd to a private conversation over mezcal.
The hotel itself is a large part of the draw. Designed by Mexico City architect Javier Sánchez, The Cape mixes handcrafted Mexican detail with a breezy, mid-century modern sensibility, using wood, leather, stone and copper, and its windows and walkways are angled to keep the eye on the sea. The property holds one MICHELIN Key.
The Rooftop brings that design outdoors with two open-air bars, sunken communal seating, greenery and fire pits, all looking over the Sea of Cortez, El Arco and the lights of town. Acoustic sets and DJs rotate through the week, and the hotel’s New Year’s Eve party has become an annual fixture.
What to expect
Come to The Rooftop around sunset for cocktails and light bites, and stay as the music picks up; seating ranges from large shared tables to stools along the glass edge. The Glass Box offers an air-conditioned retreat of soft leather chairs and decorative glass and ceramic pieces, with a drinks list that leans into tequila, mezcal and Mexican wine. It suits a quieter aperitif or a nightcap after the rooftop crowd.
