Galería Militar
An artist-run contemporary gallery in an industrial space, staging rotating shows by local and international artists.
In the artists’ town of Todos Santos, Galería Militar is one of the most distinctive places to see contemporary work. The gallery sits in the town’s historic center on Calle Heroico Colegio Militar, the street that gives it its name, and calls itself an artist-activated contemporary gallery.
It began as a studio and creative workspace and, in 2020, relaunched with a broader mission and a new series by local painter Mark Gabriel exploring the socialites of a retro tropical jet set. Gabriel’s bold, witty and nostalgic canvases remain at the heart of the programme, which has since grown to include other local and invited international artists.
It earns its place on The Cabo 100 for personality. Where many galleries play it safe, this one leans into colour, humour and theatre, and it gives back to the town through annual fundraisers supporting the local film festival, The Palapa Society’s education work, the Padrino Foundation’s children’s healthcare and the Perro Santos spay and neuter clinics.
What to expect
Expect a tightly curated, themed exhibition each season rather than a crowded salon hang. Recent shows have included Mark Gabriel’s Theatre for the Fierce and Restless Spirits, work by Christa Assad, and pieces by Heath Kane, Diego Rodarte and Terryl Tagg. The gallery takes part in the Todos Santos ArtWalk on the first Friday of each month and has hosted events tied to ABC Art Baja in March. It makes an easy pairing with a stroll through the town’s other galleries and a long lunch.
