Montage Los Cabos has one advantage that few resorts in the destination can match: a calm, swimmable bay. It spreads across 39 acres on Santa María Bay, a sheltered cove roughly midway along the Tourist Corridor, within the Twin Dolphin community, and the bay is widely described as one of the very few places in Los Cabos where swimming and snorkelling are easy.

The resort was Montage’s first outside the United States. Its architecture is contemporary and low-slung, two-storey buildings influenced by traditional Mexican design, and native plants were relocated during construction and replanted afterwards.

The credentials are serious. Montage Los Cabos holds two Michelin Keys and Forbes Five-Star ratings for both hotel and spa, and it has been a AAA Five Diamond resort for years running.

What to expect

The 122 rooms, suites and casas all look toward the bay, with indoor and outdoor showers and deep soaking tubs. The casas are standalone, hacienda-style homes with butler service and private pools, and 52 Montage Residences offer more space for longer stays.

Spa Montage is the resort’s signature: a 40,000-square-foot complex, often cited as the largest in the area, with an adults-only pool, hot and cold plunge pools, fitness and yoga. On the water, the beach shack lends out kayaks, paddleboards and snorkel gear, and beginners can try a complimentary scuba discovery session with PADI instructors. Mezcal, the modern Mexican restaurant, is recommended by the Michelin Guide, and Marea shifts from a breezy beachfront lunch to a more atmospheric dinner. Families are well served, with a staffed kids’ club and several pools.
