Among the shops at Flora Farms, Eduardo Sánchez is the one for anyone looking to take home a single, lasting piece. The Mexican designer trained with Italian masters in Florence and Rome, and his studio-boutique on the farm brings that old-world craft to a distinctly Mexican subject: the coin.
Sánchez designed his first collection in 2010 around original Latin coins, and coins have anchored his work ever since. His Querencia collection is dedicated to Mexico and built around Mexican coins, while other pieces draw on Italian and French currency. The result is jewellery with a story in it, bold without being flashy.
The brand describes its approach as sustainable luxury, with an Upcycle line among its collections. That combination of heritage, craftsmanship and conscience is what earns it a place on this list.
What to expect
Expect rings, necklaces, bracelets and cuffs in gold and silver, many set with a coin as the centrepiece, as well as one-of-a-kind pieces. The finest work pairs gold with diamonds: one Querencia ring singled out by the American trade press frames a coin with a circle of round brilliants. Coins from Mexico, Italy and France turn up across the collections, each giving a piece its own small history. The setting helps: you browse between farm gardens and the other Flora Farms shops, often in the evening before dinner at the Field Kitchen.
